EBOOK / KINDLE Balancing the Scales Brits in Manhattan 1
This is book 1 in the Brits in Manhattan series and what a fabulous first instalment it is Drew and Becky cross paths while waiting in line for Their morning bagel and this story follows them as they both try to find their feet in the friend zone when really they want to be anything but They both carry a huge amount of emotional baggage and find it hard to overcome but gradually through their friendship blossoms something much profound WOW This Book I m a massive fan of Laura s so was suealing excitedly when this baby arrived on my indle After all the gorgeous teasers she d been sharing I had high expectations and was not disappointedThis is a gorgeous story of 2 people who are actually pretty lonely but at first you wouldn t think it They both work extremely hard and see anything else as a distraction and as a result haven t been looking for anything The first thing you notice when these two meet is the spark of interest they both entice in each other They instantly put each other s backs up but underneath that is an instant attractionLaura s style of writing is so skilled She writes with such emotion and passion and this reflects in her books What is firstly considered a romantic comedy of sorts uickly transforms into something deeper heart warming and profound I loved everything about this gorgeous story and couldn t help but fall in love with Drew even though he was arrogant and cocky but loved how Becky called him out on his crap and didn t stand for any nonsense even I can t recommend this book enough and seriously can t wait for Brooks story next100% 5 HUGE from me This is my first Laura Carter book and in the beginning I wasn t sure whether I am up for reading it as I wasn t in the mood for a romantic comedy But a friend of mine raved about it so much that I decided to check it out And I am so happy I did And yes this is a romantic comedy but it is also so much than that It is a story of strength survival determination and a beautiful romantic love that will capture your heart and will stay in it foreverDrew and Becky are two great characters The story is mainly told through Drew s POV which in my opinion is great which helps to get to Queen Esther the Second Graders of Doom know him better But there are still enough glimpses of Becky that will help you understand the reasoning behind her actions and the nightmare she had to live through For me Becky is an incredibly strong character She survived practically being neglected by her mother the abuse of a person she thought would be her saviour Her inner strength and beauty her smart and funny personality practically make her irresistible So it is not a big surprise that Drew falls for her head over hills DDrew is also a character that will catch your heart nearly from the start He is a workaholic and to be honestind of a manwore And definitely a rude and insufferable ahole Or at least that s the first impression he leaves But once you get to Dirty Secrets know him you discover that there is much under his protective shell Whereas he hasn t suffered a trauma that made him shut down the world his difficult childhood made him lock his heart and completely focus on his work Or at least that s true until he meets Becky She finds the cracks in his protective walls and shows him how to open up and look at the world with brighter eyes At the same time Drew helps Becky heal her bruised heart and shows her that all her dreams can come true And that there are people in this world that will stand beside you and fight together with you when you need it simply because they love youAs I already mentioned for me this is a great story It took me a while to really get into the story but once I did I was a goner So be sure to pick your copy and meet Becky and Drew asap I can guarantee you won t regret it As for me I can t wait for the next book in the series I am sure it will be amazing 3This review was originally posted at Living In Our Own Story Book Blog I received an ARC of the book in exchange of an hone. “Carter's writing style is absolutely brilliant” The Romance ReviewsA Hotshot Manhattan Attorney Drew Harringtonnows exactly who he is a legal shark with a love ‘em and leave ‘em attitude that works just fine in his cutthroat world He’s on the cusp of promotion to named partner but only if
St review WOW What a way to A Ranchers Vow (Sons of Silver Springs) (Sons of Silver Springs) (Harlequin Intrigue kick off this series Laura Carter has once again delivered a fantastic story with amazing characters I loved this book Drew Becky are loveable and infectious From the very beginning there is an instant pull between these two charismatic characters Tension sizzles and pops louder and stronger than ricerispies Drew made me swoon He s so so perfect So DAMN sexy And swoony AF He was also surprising His intensity and pure alpha male goodness rocked my world Becky is strong and sassy And I love the way Laura aided her growth through out the book Her back story was devastatingLaura writes Balancing the Scales mainly from a male POV and it worked I loved being in Drew s head for the most part This book is an incredible friends to lovers romance written flawlessly I loved every second Review also found at received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review Thank youWhen I started the book it was written from Drew s perspective and I thought it would go back and forth between Drew s point of view and Becky s This was not the case The majority of the story is told from Drew s perspective and the reader only gets snippets of Becky s story as the plot unfolds I really enjoyed this strategy As the reader only gradually learns about Becky s history it gave the story an extra layer of depth This is only the second book I ve read by this author but I love her writing style and this is very different to the first I read I want to read Drew is a hot shot attourney hard working dedicated arrogant and definitely on the arsehole scale When Becky beats him to the front of the breakfast bagel line she makes him smile with her uick wit not something many people can do She is a patisserie chef and my word I think I d fall in love with her if she made me the type of cakes she tempts Drew with when he inadvertently visits the restaurant she works at Drew needs help bringing his human side out to ensure his promotion to partner of his law firm and British Becky needs a friend in the big city to show her the sights Both are adamant they don t want or need a steady relationship but their chemistry is so strong they can t deny their attraction A friends with benefits arrangement seems the perfect solution to give them what they both want but why is Becky in New York and just how long is she planning on stayingBalancing the Scales is told in the main from Drew s pov this is something that makes this a bit different in a good way There are a few great flashback chapters from Becky where we learn some of her history but I loved the way we saw Drew grow from absolutely dedicated almost unfeeling workaholic to someone who was in denial throughout started to realise there was to life than hard work and one night stands He really grew emotionally and to hear him uestion himself and agonise over what Becky was thinking and feeling was enlightening Becky Jazz Funeral keeps her cards close to her chest and her emotional walls high and certainly has secrets and a vulnerable side but she s a bright light in his world and she turned him upside down I loved it This is a sweet very sexy humorous feel good book with an underlying beautiful story of two absolutely loveable characters learning to live let go trust love and still remain true to themselves It made me smile a lot 5 roots and wings stars 45 StarsReview to follow 45 Stars I love the corporate environment and the politicking involved when working one s way to the top of the partnership ladder I also love desserts and how their goodness has the ability to bridge the communication gap between two opposites After reading the book blurb and some of the reviews about this novel Inew I had to experience Balancing the Scales for myself This story was uite meaningful and passionate while The Doctors Pregnancy Surprise keeping me on the edge of my seat for most of the narrative Laura Carter is a new author for me and I look forward to reading of her. E can prove to his colleagues that he has a human sideA Sweetheart of a British Patisserie ChefBecky Fletcher is running from her past so the last thing she’s looking for is love What she does want is a friendly face in a cold city Her sunny outlook is the sweetness Drew nevernew was missing from his.
