Pdf/E–book [The Rules of Half] è Jenna Patrick
RULES OF HALF BY JENNA PATRICKThis is an incredibly complex multilayered debut novel that explores several themes and streamlines them together so that they all emerge together Hell is yourself and the only redemption is when a person puts himself aside to feel deeply for another person Tennessee WilliamsRegan Whitmer is running away from an abusive stepfather from Chicago after her mother shoots herself in the head in front of Regan Regan hitchhikes to the little town of Half Moon Hollow with a population of around 1500 people She has come here to find her biological father who doesn t yet know she exists She is walking the deserted streets of town when she is offered a ride from a postal worker When she takes the address out of her pocket an I would like to thank NetGalley the publisher and the author for my ARC copy for a fair and honest reviewWhat would you do if you had nothing to lose because you had already lost it by the age of 15 That s the case of Regan Whitmer a teen irl that had been raised on the streets of Chicago by her mother until her mother married a pastor by the name of Steven This all takes place before the start of the book and we learn and about what Regan has faced as she thinks back to what she and her mother had endured prior to her mothers suicideHow would we behave if we saw our own parent kill themselves with our own eyes Would we even resemble normal Well Regan runs away from her stepfather to look for her father a man that her mother had said was a hero and other reat things but what she finds is a man that the small town has shunned as crazy and scary Is he really those things Is he dangerous or simply misunderstood These are things that you will find out as you read this heartbreaking but at times funny story about what it s like living with someone with Bipolar Disorder The high highs and the low lows mania and severe depression not easy things for anyone to deal with but with support from the people that love you the proper meds and therapy many people can lead normal lives The author covered all these things beautifullyIt s hard to not care about Regan her father Will her Aunt Janey boy friend Lane and her Principal Lindsey They all play an important part in how Will handles life after the loss of his baby daughter meeting his teen daughter that he didn t know he had and simply life in a town that seems to despise him as they believe he was the cause of his infant daughter s death It shows how our own misunderstandings our own biases and our own ignorance can easily affect others This is one of those books that I could not put down and am very much looking forward to reading by this very talented author and see what other issues and faces she will put on them to make them real to the masses This is a really complex and interesting novel that really surprised me I was drawn to it as one of the themes of the novel is mental health which is something I m always drawn to This novel centers around a man with bipolar disorder his sister and his daughter At the center of this novel is the impact of mental health issues on a person hisher family and the larger community It s about being different and misunderstood It s about finding the people you need in your life the people who et you and accept you for who you are I think it did a beautiful job of showing the reader what bipolar disorder really looks like As someone who sees it every day as it plays out in a myriad of ways I felt this book did a Taken By the Sheriff the Deputy Too! good job of showing the reader theood and bad It felt uite balanced The characters are fantastic They come alive on the page They are complex and feel very true to life The book flowed so effectively I just loved every moment of reading this book It is a wonderful story about love and taking care of the people you love in the way that s best for them I think this is a beautifully written honest and real novel about really interesting people If that sounds Kentucky Grandmothers good to you you should pick this one up It s one that will make you think about your own perspective on mental illness It s one that will break your heart and yet leave you with hope It s a fantastic novelNOTE I received an ARC of this novel for an honest review 35 stars I received this ARC from Spark Press and NetGalley in exchange for an honest reviewHaving a mental illness is an awful thing to carry throughout your life It condemns you to a life where you have lost control of yo This book is a compulsive read it s fun charming and full of suspenseful moments I am saying this at the front of my review because I have some critiues and I If Will Fletcher's severe bipolar disorder isn't proof he shouldn't be a parent his infant daughter'srave is Once a happily married successful veterinarian he now lives with his sister and thrives as the small town crazy of Half Moon Hollow But when a fifteen year old orphan claims she's his da.

Ant to make sure that it s clear that Rules of Half is a really engaging read The first problematic issue is that of mental illness I m putting mental illness in uotes because I am not a fan of the expression One of the main characters is a man diagnosed as having bipolar disorder and while I am willing to believe and in fact I probably should believe because the author doubtless did her homework that people with BD can be as out and out crazy as this Štěky Broka Špindíry guy is heck anyone can right the few bipolar people I know are nothing of the sortWill is extremely emotional afraid of other people unreliable forgetful and socially awkward All of these traits have nothing to do with bipolar disorder It pains me to think that a reader who is unfamiliar with bipolar disorder might believe that all people with bipolar disorder will display these traits They do not These are Will s own uirksThe author seems toesture in this direction ie toward suggesting that these features of Will s are not related to his psychiatric diagnosis when she links Will s behavior to the loss of his child This would make Will a sufferer of massive The Blackmailed Secretary grief and PTSD as well as bipolar disorder and the self loathing he experiences alongside the creation of this intensely uirky persona would have nothing to do with BD I wish Patrick had taken care to draw the distinction betweenriefPTSD and BD precisely The book also presents compulsory imprisonment for those who suffer from psychiatric diagnoses as a threat that follows Will around but doesn t do in my opinion enough work to show what a heinous and unjust practice it is We know it s unfair for Will but there is nothing in the novel that might lead the reader to believe that it is unfair period So let me state it myself it is always uncontroversially unjust to incarcerate anyone who has not been charged with a crime I confess that I have a beef against representation of people with psychiatric disabilities as whacko irresponsible and unreliable This is a stereotype that really really has to If the Magic Fits (100 Dresses, goMy other problem with this book is of a purely personal nature When heterosexual romance is pitted against lesbian romance I invariably root for the latter But that s just methank you to sparkpress and netgalley for an arc of this book via my blog No one in this town wanted his help No one liked being in the same room with him They scattered like ants hid ARC provided by publisher in exchange for an honest review45 starsWhen everyone else looks at you and sees crazy I see complex When they see someone who s not worth a second of their time I finally see someone who is actually worth every bit of mine When they see a man who s damned I see one who s yet to be redeemedEvery once in a while I come across a book outside the romanceenre that piues my interest When I read the blurb of The Rules of Half I just knew it would be emotional heartbreaking but also uniue and real There are many people who have Bipolar Disorder and I can t imagine it being easy for them and their family This book Improve Your Communication Skills gave a very well rounded look into a man struggling with his disorder but also with the heartbreaking events from his past Will had so much on his plate and he couldn t leto of his inner demons or forgive himself This book is told from four POVs Will his sister Janey his teenage daughter Regan and the the new school principal Lindsay I thought it was very essential in this book to hear what all four of them were thinking and they all had their own struggles and problems There were multiple story lines intertwined into the main one and the author did a phenomenal job in the way she told everyone s story There were so many heartbreaking scenes that had me tearing up especially the scenes with Will and Regan were sad I loved how everything developed in this story and I couldn t et enough I loved that there was some romance even though it wasn t the most important part It was about the bond between brother and sister father and daughter and people who are attractedin love with each other Friendship played an important role as well The Rules of Half is a very strong complete raw and beautiful debut novel of Jenna Patrick I am very impressed by her writing and I ll definitely keep a close eye on her upcoming books There is no better with this illness There is only controlled This was such an informative book learning about how having Bi Polar Disorder can affect people as well as their family members This is a story not only of accomplishment and success but offers a message of encouragement and hope to others Sometimes the best parenting a parent. Ughter Will is forced back into the role he fears most fatherhood Her biological dad isn't the hero Regan Whitmer hoped for but he's better than her abusive stepfather back in Chicago Still haunted by her mother's suicide and the rebellious past she fears led to it Regan is desperate for a stable.
