Ker workings of their relationship even though I understood them That turned me off from the romance a bit but I still liked it overall and I still thought Laura and Adam were a lovely coupleThe plot was good I wasn t totally hooked but I was kept interested the entire way through There were plenty of secrets surprises and thrills of danger that kept me on the edge of my seat I really enjoyed the story and I thought the ending was a perfect wrap up to the storyThe Temptation of Laura was a wonderful historical romance I really enjoyed reading it despite the issues I had with some parts Romance lovers this is a book worth checking outI received a free copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review This review can also be found at Carole s Random LifeI received an advance reader edition of this book from Kensington Books and Net Galley for the purpose of providing an honest reviewI give this book a solid 4 stars This is one of those books that will work for some readers but not for others I liked this book and found that it did work for me but many romance readers will not feel the same This is not a hearts and flowers feel good romance This romance is rather dark in my mind with characters who have had a tough lifeLaura is a whore and has been one since she was 15 years old She lives with her friend Bette and the pair have taken care of each other Bette is sick and Laura is doing her best to provide for the both of them She has always been drawn to the theater and decides to see if she can find work there She is able to find an honest ob selling treats at the theater where she meets Adam Adam is an actor and aspiring playwright who knows that the key to the play that he has written is Laura Adam pursues Laura and convinces her to be in his play The pair become close and eventually Laura and Bette both move into Adam s home for protection from the neighborhood pimp Adam knows about Laura s past but is able to look beyond that and they both start having feeling for each otherThis book is darker than most historical romances at least those that I have encountered Laura has been a prostitute in order to take care of herself and has a hard time believing that anyone will ever see her as anything but a whore Adam has been at the mercy of wealthy widows in order to find work They both have a hard time learning to be together without falling back on past behaviors This is not simply the story of two people falling in love It is really the story of two people who are hurting learning to love each other while learning to change their life It was a bit different and I liked that about the bookI found the characters to be somewhat believable Not all of their actions were believable but for the most part it felt authentic I thought the writing was well done I really like that the author chose to let the characters mess up since it was really unexpected for me I would recommend this book to any romance reader willing to try something a little darker I plan to check out other works by this author Laura Robinson had been a prostitute since the age of 15 She is tired of that life and wants to make something of herself She has always wanted to be an actress and manages to get a Everwar (Cal Leandros, job selling food at the local theatreAdam Lacey has the staring role at the theatre but would really like to be writing the plays instead of acting in them When he sees Laura for the first time he knows she would be the perfect person to star in his play It was if the part had been writtenust for herLaura don t believe that Adam wants her for his play She believes that he knows what she use to be and ust wants to get her into bed Adam soon convinces her of his sincerity and they begin rehearsingAs they spend and time with each other their attraction grows Can it lead anywhere What will each of them do to get the life that they wan. Pation seems impossible Hoping to attract a gentleman she attends the theater Yet the man Laura captivates is no customer but a rising star and playwrightAdam Lacey has been driven to distraction since the moment he saw Laura She is his ideal leading lady come to irresistible life and.
Originally written for Book Bliss book blog I received a copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased and honest reviewReview 25 starsGeneral Unfortunately for me this book didn t hit home The blurb intrigued me based on concept and my curiosity at what time frame this was taking place However I was unable to engage in the plot characters or the time frame it was set in I did finish as the overall idea was interesting but it isn t one that I m keen on reading another from the author For me everything ust was a little flat the characters weren t as strongly developed as I would have liked and the time frame felt like it was ust slapped on for the sake of making the characterizations work I love historical romance but sometimes they all seem the dame Don t get me wrong sometimes it s not a bad thing like revisited an old friend after not seeing them for a while There may be subtle differences but overall nothing has truly changed Therefore when I find a historical romance that sticks out for whatever reason it excites me Rachel Brimble s novels interested me greatly because they promised something different Prostitutes actresses and village girls These aren t the usual heroines in a historical romance No those are the side characters there to help or hinder the Hh And often than not are shown in a less than favorable light Even when they are aiding the main characters these commoners are typically depicted as uneducated unkempt andor even something less than humanBut Brimble made them human Not only that she made them likable Despite how common or low class Brimble s lead couples seem to be they are still very much human with morals and standards I found myself rooting for them ust as much I would the usual ton couples I read about maybe even so since I felt I could relate to these charactersBrimble also has an easy enjoyable writing style I found myself gliding along the pages never once stumbling over a word phrase or sentence that didn t make senseOverall I enjoyed every single novel I have read from Brimble thus far I felt her interwoven tales of love and struggle on a visceral and loved that she wrote about the often forgotten members of society during this era I loved the story and the heroine Laura Robinson was a strong woman who had a very bad past Her story was very moving I loved that she was able to overcome her past and still managed to teach her hero a lesson or two The Hero Adam Lacey had glimmers of sweetness and was fun to get to know In the beginning I thought he was selfish and that he wasn t the brightest bulb in the pack being too focused on his own success to really pay much attention to what Laura was going through Their relationship was a little dark but the romance was very sweet I give this book a 30 star rating Plot and Hero needed developing but other than that it shows great promise A dark emotional romance The Temptation of Laura was a wonderful read I really enjoyed reading this lovely bookLaura was a great heroine She had a difficult life that forced her to make unsavory decisions but she refused to be ashamed of doing what she needed to do in order to survive But she was also determined to leave that life once and for all She was a strong character and uite admirable for what she went through My only issue with her was that even thought I understood the reason for it her deep cynicism was rather frustrating at times Otherwise I really liked herAdam was also good He was sweet and determined to succeed However he had a frustrating habit of placing his ambitions before the important things and letting said ambition blind him But I still really liked himThe romance was okay I thought Laura and Adam were well matched and I thought it was sweet how they accepted each other as they were And there was no denying the hot chemistry between them However I didn t like the dar. Laura Robinson has always been dazzled by the glamour of the stage But perhaps acting and selling one's favors are not so different for Laura must feign pleasure with the men she beds to survive Now with her only friend at death's door and a ruthless pimp at her heels escaping her occu.
